Hmm my post for this week obv didn't upload..

Anyway, today was the most likely best day for the week (and it was bloody good too)
Tomorrow and Wednesday look lighter but after that it looks like we have high pressure moving in!

Also I wanted to thank all that came and had a go on the North Kites yesterday...if you guys don't have a go then the reps will be more reluctant to come again! ;)
But there were plenty trying the kites yesterday, tbh they were both out of there range really but it's always good to try other kites and we need feedback good or bad too! As do the brands !

The CARVE should be ridden at least 1-2m smaller than you'd normally use. 5m would have done me yesterday but the 7m was awesome for jumping but obviously no where near as awesome as the ORBIT!! :D i.e the Carve is better at it's lower end and the Orbit is better at it's top end....and boosts Huuuuuge!

That bar is quite simply imho one of the simplest / best bars on the market...no bull, no messing and....red on the port side /left side, not trendy fashionable colours like so many these days.

We have a selection of new kite models arriving today from PLKB for demo use so if anyone is interested in trying something different just shout at the beach.
Our big order of the stupidly low price packages from PLKB should be with us around this time next week...fingers crossed!

PLKB Synergy 8m (Lightwind single strut kite)
PLKB Nova 8m Foil kite
PLKB Hook 5 strut higher aspect boosting kite
PLKB Swell V4 allround kite we already use

Marcus was out on the 10m (can't wait for him to try the Orbit in the 9m)

Very quick edit from yesterday, I didn't get that much video as didn't intend doing a vid but thought I'd put together what I did have anyway.

I know a few people have asked me recently the difference in kite designs i.e wave kite - boosting kite - freestyle kite etc
This is a fascinating insight into kite design...
Pat Goodman in Dakhla at he importer dealer meet I was at last month.

Really interesting video into kite design. Sounds very technical.
Size wise though, would you ride the same size wave kite as say a freeride or boosting kite? i.e stick with the usual 7,9 & 12m sizes

I thought you'd enjoy that, we had to sit through approx 4 hours a day of this whilst there but it does fascinate me.

As I mentioned yesterday most if not all wave riders would choose to use no bigger that 9m, every kite over 9m seems to just get way slower and it gets to a point where a faster slightly smaller kite will 7-8m generate as much power as a bigger slower kite once you know how too.

Pretty much all would prefer to be on as small as feasible when wave riding. Mike was out yesterday on a 7m Ozone Reo (the black one) he's fairly average build/weight too....everyone else on tt's etc were on 9m or bigger. He was actually practicing strapless air's and was getting decent height too even on the 7m.

The surface area of the board makes a huge difference....but only when you really know how to use the surfboard efficiently (otherwise all that rocker will sap the power out of the kite).

In answer to you question...it generally would be the case when comparing a boosting kite and a wave kite. The wave kites are generally fuller lower aspect shape and sit further back in the window and in so doing will create more low end grunt. (The Carve) A high aspect kite is much higher aspect (long narrow wing) and will fly way upwind creating less grunt but better for upwind and boosting (The Orbit) The Orbit is not super high aspect like the Ozone Edge or Rebel etc so it does have more all round abilities also....which was the surprising thing as mentioned in the video.

It is very hard to ride a high aspect kite in the surf, it just wants to drag you off the wave and turns in a much bigger ark pulling all the time through it;'s turn...the Wave (more freeride) kite however will drift better, turns on it's own axis without pulling you off down wind.

Pat does mention some of these things in that video.

Thanks very much Marc, it's all becoming clearer slowly. Must watch the video again as it's full of technical stuff.

It seems though that if you want to ride waves & do some jumping you really need two sets of kites, a set to suit each discipline?? Anything in between like a freeride kite must be a compromise on both I suppose.

Exactly, we used to love the Epic Screamer for the sheer excitement of being ripped of the water when boosting but it was useless in the waves on a surfboard. In the end we went with more "all round" kites like the PLKB Swell and now the North Carve as they will do both but we also have a set of Reo's as pure wave kites especially as we both compete as well.

On a different note I just had an awesome session on the foil with the single strut Synergy (the orange one I used yesterday) it was good in the waves but man it is very very nice with the foil...and packs up tiny too...great travel kite for sure!
