Built for performance
The second version of the Origin is the result of a long process of development and testing done by our design team and riders based in South Africa.
Specifications: Quality, efficiency and ease of use.

This 4 strut kite, equipped with a one pump system, combines stability and maneuverability in a streamlined design. Its intuitive steering and spontaneous handling properties provide immediate fun, allowing the rider to push the boundaries of the sport in complete safety and comfort. Its wide range of uses makes any ride enjoyable, regardless of the rider’s ability level.

The Origin will not only satisfy wave riders and hard core freeriders, but will also meet the expectations of intermediate riders who are looking for an easy-to-fly and responsive kite. With the Origin² your kite sessions are simply pure bliss …The construction quality of a Genetrix kite has no equal on the market. Improvement is our ongoing goal.

TECHNICAL:

A new architecture of 4 struts, the Origin² is a 4 line C-shape kite with a supported SLE edge. The direct feel response bridle system has no pulleys for a trouble free environment. Equipped with a One Pump inflation system, optimized angle of attack, and a very moderate aspect ratio, the Origin² is light and maneuverable with precise cornering. Water re-launch is immediate and straightforward allowing the rider freedom to master the next level.

VERSATILITY:

Your kite session depends on wind and water conditions which may change during your navigation time. This is where the Origin² strengths come into play. Its versatility to instantly adapt to all styles of riding whether it is freestyle / freeriding / waveriding or course racing, translates into more time on the water in variable conditions.

PERFORMANCE:

The Origin² is a kite that has an excellent range of use with comfort and stability in strong wind. Even though pressure on the front lines is reduced for an improved bar feel, the Origin retains a constant low end grunt ideal for wave riding. The new 4 strut design emphasizes the pivot speed and maneuverability of the kite with better performance in the low wind range, making it possible to navigate with smaller sizes.

ALL TERRAIN:

Wave and freestyle riding is pure pleasure whether you are an aggressive rider or of the casual type. With its excellent lift, the Origin² will fulfill all your needs thanks to its accessibility and its intuitive control. The Origin² comes with 3 meter line extensions. (21m + 3m) You can adjust the lengths of your lines to the forces of the wind, depending on your riding style.By setting up the ABC tuning on the wing tips connectors, you can adapt your kite to respond to your riding style.

SECURITY:

In Flight: The Origin² is an extremely accessible and stable wing, with a very wide range of use.
On the water: Immediate water re-launch. With its new aspect ratio, The Origin² will simply await for re-launch at the edge of the wind window. The 4-line bar limits the risk of line entanglement.
The Origin² bar is equipped with a “One Push” Quick Release allowing you to disconnect immediately to the deflag line. The ergonomically integrated QR is equipped with a swivel for untwisting lines.
Clam cleat depower system.
Wing tip self rescue handles.

Genetrix 2011 Origin Analyze This Kite Review

FROM THE MANUFACTURER
GENETRIX is proud to introduce our newest creation, the ORIGIN. After developing the speed record-breaking HYDRA kite, we have been working hard to deliver you a new kite designed for wave riding, freestyle, and ultimately for pure pleasure. Our talented design team has spent many hours developing a product with a new standard of performance unequaled in freestyle and wave riding.

The ORIGIN blends smoothness and instant control while maintaining fast flying and turning speed. Highly intuitive and responsive, the ORIGIN can pivot on a tight radius with light bar pressure and is easy to control. As with its partner the HYDRA, the ORIGIN delivers unrivaled hang time capability.

The Origin is not just for hardcore freestylers or dedicated wave riders but will also satisfy anyone who is in search of a user-friendly kite.

THE KITEBOARDER REPORT
Out of the Box: The Origin may be the first kite from Genetrix to be tested by The Kiteboarder, but they are not a new company. Genetrix claims this kite was in development for two years before being released. The Origin is a six-strut kite, meaning that the middle of the kite is strut-free. Other standout features include a simple bridle (no pulleys), wingtip self-rescue handles, non-segmented struts (meaning less seams), a clean one-pump system, and a wingtip deflator to make it easier to roll up your kite.

All kites from Genetrix use the same bar, which features a molded push-away quick release, removable donkey stick, below-bar swivel, above-bar depower cleat, and sleeved main depower line. Each rear line has an adjustable strap that allows you to adjust on the fly.

On the Water: The Genetrix Origin is an amazingly simple and easy-to-use kite. The bar pressure is light-medium and steering is smooth and direct. The Origin doesn’t deliver full power during aggressive turns, but the power smoothly comes back after the turn is initiated. Jumping on this kite is fantastic with great vertical lift and hang time. The Origin handles predictably and the kite remains stable in most conditions, even when unhooked.

Since there is no center line stopper for the bar, don’t completely let the bar go when un-spinning your lines or you’ll let the kite go to complete depower.

PROS:
◦Great vertical lift and hang time.
◦The whole Origin package is a clean and simple grab-and-go kite.
CONS:
◦Lack of a stopper on the depower line makes it possible to accidently sheet the kite out to full depower.
◦Wind range (especially on the low end) is a little narrow.

THE VERDICT:
Great boosting power, incredible hang time, and an ultra-simple design make the Origin a desirable kite. The elegant engineering of the kite and bar will feel comfortable in the hands of kiters at all skill levels. Riders who want a no-worries kiting experience will appreciate the Origin, as there are no moving parts on the kite to break. Riders who like a kite that pulls evenly while turning may not like how this kite handles. This is a great all-around kite that will appeal to a wide audience of kiteboarders.

TIPS:
◦Because of the simple bridle and set up, you can simply leave your lines attached to the kite when de-rigging to speed up getting on the water next time.
◦Be sure to put the safety system back together correctly with the leash in the slotted area.
Consumer Review: hydra at seabreeze.com.au
As it turns out, the kite blew away me and anyone who flew it. This kite seems super stable with light bar pressure. It turns fast with the choice of three connection points at the rear lines…

Tell us a bit about Genetrix and your background?
I started designing kites in 1998 when Eric Saurré and I made the first flat kite with a four line depowerable bar system. At the time, nobody was very interested in our design because the major manufacturers had already invested in the legaignoux patent and were looking to get some return on their investment. I kept working on R&D and brought the concept to market when I started Genetrix in 2005, and launched the first Hydra v1. We built Genetrix’s reputation on the Hydra, which is totally unique and still has the biggest wind range on the market, even four years after we introduced the Hydra v1. For instance, when Sébastien Cattelan smashed the 50 knot world record, he was flying a 9m Hydra v3 in 45 knots of wind! The Origin is a brand new freestyle kite from Genetrix.

Where does it fit in your product mix and what were you main goals in developing it?
We wanted to complement the existing Hydra by offering a brand-new design dedicated to wave riding and freestyle. For these disciplines, fast/smooth turning and auto relaunch were of prime importance, along with a good wind range and easy handling. Our experience with the Hydra also really helped us. For instance, we integrated one aerodynamic design feature (double center struts) from the Hydra, which gives the kite better stability and a much greater projected surface to the wind which in turns creates more power and a bigger wind range.

2011 Genetrix Origin
What was your biggest challenge during the prototype phase?
To make a kite better than the Hydra! I spent two years prototyping and testing before putting the Origin on the market.

What are some of the key product features and performance characteristics?
Quality, power, quick response, and performance. We use Teijin’s polyester fabric exclusively for all our kites. It is the most expensive material on the market and many brands don’t use it. We go the extra mile because we know that even after two or three years, a Genetrix kite still holds a lot of value, which is important to our customers. Freestylers will love the ease of unhooked moves. At arms length, the power in the kite is easy to control and the bar feels light.

What are the safety features on your bar?
The clean and efficient quick release (which conveniently incorporates the swivel), below-the-bar leash attachment, and no bulky QR with metal parts which can get in the way when doing unhooked moves.

Any other key features you want to point out about your control system or lines?
The bridle on the Origin is ultra clean and compact – all adjustments are made at the bar with custom tuning options on the wingtips where the rear lines attach. We deliberately avoided the use of any pulleys.

2011 Genetrix Origin
What style/level of rider do you think will get the most out of this product?
The Origin is a kite that will perform well for beginner to advanced riders and for those that are taking freestyle and wave riding to the next level. The fact that it practically bounces off the water when dropped makes it great for riders of all abilities.

What is your warranty policy?
We warranty our products for one year from the date of purchase. We proudly stand behind our products and want to make sure that the Genetrix name in the US has the same great reputation we’ve developed in Europe over the last five years.

What do you believe differentiates your product from your competitors?
Quality is synonymous with Genetrix. You can tell the quality of our kites from just looking at them on the beach – but you have to try them to understand how the advanced design features translate into world-beating performance.

TESTED: Marc Antoine Martin, Team Rider
The Origin is a versatile kite both for freestyle and wave riding. It also has a lot of hang time even though this is not its strongest point. With its round shape, it relaunches quickly and easily which is an incredible advantage in wave riding! In freestyle new school, the kite performs very well. The bar pressure is moderate and the kite turns very quickly while being gentle and smooth throughout the wind window. For 9m or smaller kites, I found it is ideal to attach the rear lines to the neutral position on the wingtip setting or even the forward setting to slow down the kite’s turning speed. Above 11m, the maneuverability is maintained but the kite has a substantive power greater than the 5, 7 and 9m. Its design is also excellent for kite loops – the kite moves back to the top as soon as it has finished its rotation.

The quality of these kites should pitch them at the top of the price range but they have slashed the margins and we have matched them here in the UK

KITEWORLD MAG TEST

THE HYPE:
After developing the speed record-breaking Hydra kite, Genetrix worked hard to deliver a new kite for wave riding, freestyle and, ultimately, pure pleasure. The Origin blends smooth handling and instant control while maintaining fast flying characteristics and turning speed. Highly intuitive and responsive, the Origin can pivot on a tight radius with light bar pressure and is easy to control. As with its partner the Hydra, the Origin also delivers an incredible hang-time capability. Not just for hardcore freestylers or dedicated wave riders, the Origin will also satisfy anyone who is in search of a user-friendly kite.

TEST TEAM NOTES:
This kite was our first hands-on experience of the Genetrix brand, but after being the first manufacturer to two speed World Record barriers with their Hydra kite in the last two years, we were excited to see what they had in store. The Origin, on paper, is much more of a simple specimen to the Hydra. Four lines, minimal bridling and a heavy delta shape, one pump - it looks your classic plug-and-play all-round fun kite. The bar is also nice, simple and clean. Narrow in diameter, it's got a light feel to it and has quite a chunky, easy-tofind and push away quick release above the chicken-loop.

The donkey dick is manoevrable and can be taken out of your hook and twisted to the side of the chicken-loop when you want to unhook. The trimming cleat is super simple, operating via a single line and has a nice webbing tab on the end and is easy to reach. On first set up, the wind was fairly light so we put the kite on the back line setting nearest the kite. Although the wind was quite light, it was also incredibly gusty but at the bar it felt like there was plenty of poke in the kite and got us going nicely. However, the issue we had was with the odd long arc that we sent the kite through, as it had a tendency to hesitate slightly at a certain point through the loop. The conditions were incredibly gusty, but we did find that the kite was much happier, more balanced and more fluid in feel when set up on a longer back line setting.

The Origin is nimble and pivotal. For waves this manoeuvrability is a lot of fun, allowing you to get the most out of your board riding, and the throw on the bar gives excellent depower and the power switches back on nicely as you sheet down again coming down the wave and shaping up for the next bottom turn. It should be noted that the throw is actually quite long on the Origin and you get a lot of power and depower from fairly small movements on the bar. For boosting the Origin definitely packs some beans. That delta shape really comes into its own and when you pull down on the bar, the boost and hang-time are really impressive. Relaunch is also pretty instant given the shape of the kite and with some trimming the Origin is happy to be ridden around unhooked all day long.

SUMMARY:
The Origin is a simple looking design in the popular, swept back leading edge, roll over relaunch arena that has become popular with first time buyers and wave riders alike. Loads of power, depower, rapid response and lift, the only drawback we found was the slight stickiness through the turn when you try to power the kite up too much on the shorter line setting.

KW LIKED:
Good unhooked and general throw around, playful characteristics from a kite with very impressive lift.

KW WOULD CHANGE:
The loop is incredibly quick and the power band is short. Experienced loopers will look for more of a
lengthy tug.
