Newbie need help

Postby Phill_lloyd » 02 Apr 2018, 22:20

Hey all
I’m from ammanford near Llanelli and looking to get into kite surfing going to have lessons from blast soon
I still have my 2 flexifoil ion 4 kites from along time ago when I
Was going to start but family and work commitment took over
I’m 6.3 and 127kg

My questions are...
will these kites still be ok ?
Or do I need to move with the times !!

What size board do I need ?
My wake board I used to use was 38”wide

Thanks in advance Phill

Hey Phill,

Those Ion's were popular! Depending on their condition, you should still be ok but you're doing the right thing by sorting some lessons first.
Bigger size and weight generally means bigger kites and boards are needed but it's all down to the conditions on the day.
Once done with your lessons, play with your ION's in comfortable conditions - then when you do decide to shift them you'll appreciate newer kit a lot more.

Citroen 2CV's were once popular also. ;)

The Ion's are from approx 12-13 years ago, kites have changed enormously since then, bigger wind range, easier to use, easier to relaunch just much much easier to learn to kitesurf with.

Having said that I suggested he keep the kites for now but will def need a bigger kite (at 127kilo's) as a main kite especially with summer coming ..and a large board....and use the 10m when suitable but is very unlikely to ever need the 8m much! ;)
