The more the better..
Two of the "handles" are for your feet same reason many twin tips have "3 handles"
I reckon with a similar strategy I could knock up a folding foil next. Surf it out, retract the mast..away you go..none of that wading out through the surf with a fixed mast.

Well, as a way to end this remarkable post. Non of my boards now have handles on. No knobs, hose pipe, four candles, not even one on my TT. It broke.
Decided to use the "two handles" on the board to get my feet in and bingo, sorted. It helps with a TT as you can sink the edge more than on a surfboard (easier to use the kite traction to keep board on feet); has helped with technique.
